Best Laid Plans: A Repair Sampler | 2021

An installation view of five knit cotton and mylar panels that are torqued under the tension of the knitting.
Best Laid Plans: A repair sampler, 2021, machine-cut mylar, machine-knit cotton, felted wool

Best Laid Plans: A repair sampler was made during the COVID-19 pandemic. Each panel starts with a computer-drafted design for a mylar panel, and a knitting patern for a small knit inset. The knitting and mylar elements are designed carefully on paper to integrate with each-other. However, the tension between the two materials creates torque, warping, broken threads and torn plastic. The planned works are not discarded as failures, but mended and cared for.
